Topic: Wilbur Smith: River God
Set in Ancient Egypt at the time of the Hyksos invasion, this historical fiction is from the perspective of a slave of the right hand of the pharoah. Basically a love story, it is also an adventure tale describing a terror-filled encounter with the Hyksos to the return of the Queen to reclaim her capital.
Smith gives a very detailed account of life from the view of a rich man's slave, named Taita. Everything from the pantheon of gods right down to intricate engineering specs. If you like Ancient Egypt, this book is fantastic.
Smith does follow it up with other tales of Taita, but these are so filled with mysticism and magic that they are not near as realistic as 'River God.'
